Why this goes wrong

What we usually find, and what we do instead

<p>Shopify Development by Webcotec is planned, designed and developed around your business workflow. We focus on performance, security, usability, SEO structure and long-term scalability so your digital system is easy to manage and ready to grow.</p>

What we usually find

  • Twelve apps doing five jobs — each injecting its own scripts on every page load, whether that page needs them or not.
  • Checkout leaks on mobile — forced account creation and shipping costs that only appear at the last step.
  • One flat shipping rate — which either loses money on WA and NT deliveries or prices you out in Sydney.
  • Stock updated by hand — between your POS, your accounting file and Shopify, which is where the errors come from.
  • A premium theme with your logo on it — that looks like four hundred other Australian stores.

What we do instead

  • Build it into the theme once — so the app subscriptions and their script weight both go away.
  • Fix the mobile path first — express payments up front, shipping shown early, no forced account.
  • Zone-based rates from real carrier data — so freight reflects what Australia actually costs to cross.
  • Integrate properly — Shopify to Xero or MYOB and your 3PL, so stock and invoices reconcile themselves.
  • Design to your brand — Online Store 2.0 sections your marketing team can rearrange without a developer.
What's included

What we actually work on

Not a checklist of 200 "optimisations". These are the things that move the result.

Custom theme development

Built on Online Store 2.0 with proper sections and blocks, so your team can build and reorder pages in the editor. Not a marketplace theme with the colours changed.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

App script audit, deferred third-party loading, responsive images and critical CSS. Measured on real mobile devices before and after, with the numbers shown to you.

Checkout and conversion

Cart drawer, express payment placement, shipping estimates shown early, and Shop Pay, Afterpay or Zip configured to suit your margin rather than by default.

Australian payments and freight

GST configured correctly, AUD pricing, and Australia Post or Sendle rates by zone rather than one flat guess that loses money on half your orders.

Systems integration

Shopify connected to Xero or MYOB, your 3PL or warehouse, and your POS, so stock levels and invoices reconcile without anyone retyping them.

Shopify Plus and B2B

Wholesale catalogues, customer-specific price lists, Shopify Functions for custom discount logic and checkout extensibility, where the business case justifies Plus.

How we work

A sequence, not a black box

You see the plan before we touch anything, and you approve what gets done.

01

Scope

We review your current store, apps, margins and fulfilment, then write the scope and the fixed price before anything is built.

02

Design

Templates designed mobile-first against your real product range and the way your customers actually buy.

03

Build

Built on a development store using your real products, so you review your store rather than a demo with placeholder items.

04

Test

Checkout tested end to end with real payment methods on real devices, including the shipping and tax edge cases.

05

Launch

Deployed outside trading hours with redirects live, analytics verified and a rollback ready if anything looks wrong.

FAQ

Questions Australian businesses ask about Shopify

How much does a custom Shopify store cost in Australia?

A well-built custom theme for a small to mid-sized Australian store generally starts in the mid five figures once design, build, integrations and testing are counted. A configured premium theme costs considerably less and is the right answer for many businesses. We will tell you which one you actually need.

Should I use a premium theme or build custom?

If your product range and fulfilment are standard, a well-configured premium theme is usually better value. Custom earns its cost when you have unusual merchandising, B2B pricing, complex variants, or an integration that off-the-shelf cannot handle.

Can you migrate from WooCommerce without losing rankings?

Yes, provided the redirect map is built before launch rather than after. We map every indexed URL to its new destination, keep the internal link structure intact, and monitor Search Console for coverage errors through the first month.

Will my store be fast?

Speed on Shopify is mostly determined by apps and images, not by hosting. We audit what each app costs you in script weight, build the critical functionality into the theme, and show you the measured before and after on a real mobile device.

Do I need Shopify Plus?

Most Australian businesses do not. Plus makes sense for high order volume, B2B wholesale with customer-specific pricing, checkout customisation or multi-store setups. We will say plainly if standard Shopify covers what you need.

Can you connect Shopify to Xero or MYOB?

Yes. Depending on your order volume that is either a configured connector or a custom integration, and we scope it against your actual volume rather than defaulting to the expensive option.

Who owns the code when we finish?

You do. The theme is delivered to your repository with documentation, and every third-party account stays in your name.

Do you offer support after launch?

Yes, as a monthly retainer with an agreed number of hours. For businesses that need regular changes it works out cheaper than project fees each time, and you are not locked in.
